The visual difference

Cast decorative resin can hold colour, texture or inclusions within the body and create a layered appearance. Acrylic is commonly selected for clarity, broad sheet availability, thermoforming and established signage systems. The right choice depends on the exact visual target and fabrication route.

Light transmission is not one number

Transmission changes with material, colour, thickness, surface texture and the light source. A laboratory transmittance value does not predict the appearance of a finished wall, because LED spacing, cavity depth and diffusion also determine uniformity.

Compare fabrication requirements

Cutting, drilling, polishing, bonding and thermoforming behaviour differ by material and supplier. The fabricator must know the exact product and have the current processing guidance. Prototype critical bends, edge details and fixing positions before full production.

Compare service conditions

Heat, cleaning chemicals, impact, UV exposure and local fire requirements must be assessed for the actual location. A material name alone does not establish suitability. If the panel is outdoors or in a wet area, request project-specific guidance and approvals.

Make the mock-up meaningful

Use the intended LED, distance to panel, backing colour, dimming state and viewing angle. Check the mock-up in a dark room as well as with ambient light. Record the accepted brightness and any acceptable variation.

What to request in a quotation

Provide panel sizes, quantity, material reference, thickness, LED specification, cavity details, fixing method, edge finish, destination and required documents. Compare suppliers on the complete assembly and evidence package, not only price per sheet.
